Have Questions?

Frequently Asked
Questions

Does my roof need to be south facing?

No — and this is one of the biggest misconceptions about solar!

While a south-facing roof is often considered “ideal” in the UK because it captures the most direct sunlight over the course of the day, it is absolutely not a requirement for a great solar installation.

East- and west-facing roofs can perform extremely well too. In fact, many modern systems are designed specifically to take advantage of morning and afternoon sunlight, which can be perfect for matching how households actually use electricity throughout the day. West-facing systems, for example, often generate more power later in the day when people are home and energy use is higher.

Even north-facing roofs can sometimes be used in certain situations, depending on roof pitch, shading, and system design especially with today’s more efficient panels and smart inverter technology.

The key isn’t the direction alone, it’s the overall design of the system. That’s where we come in, tailoring every installation to your roof, your usage, and your goals to make sure you get the absolute best performance possible.

Do I need batteries?

Not necessarily, but they can be a total game changer depending on how you use your energy!

A solar PV system will still work perfectly well without batteries. In this setup, any electricity your panels generate is used in your home first, and anything you don’t use is exported back to the grid. You’ll still benefit from lower bills and clean, renewable energy.

However, adding a battery means you can store that extra solar energy instead of sending it away. Then you can use it later in the evening, overnight, or when your panels aren’t producing much. This can significantly increase your self-consumption and reduce how much electricity you need to buy from the grid.

Batteries are especially great if you’re at home during the day and want to maximise savings, or if you’re aiming for greater energy independence and protection from rising energy costs.

The exciting part? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. The right choice depends on your home, your lifestyle, and your energy usage. We’ll always design a system that fits you perfectly, whether that includes a battery or not.

Will my PV system supply all our needs?

This is a great question and the honest answer is: it can cover a lot, but it depends on your home and how you use energy.

A well-designed PV system can absolutely generate a significant portion of your household electricity needs, especially during daylight hours. In many homes, this means powering everyday essentials like appliances, lighting, and daytime usage with clean, free solar energy.

However, solar panels don’t produce energy at night, and output naturally varies with the seasons, so in most cases, a PV system won’t supply 100% of your energy needs all year round on its own.

The exciting part is how we design the system around you. By carefully sizing your system, and optionally adding battery storage, we can dramatically increase how much of your energy you generate and use yourself. Many customers are surprised just how much their reliance on the grid drops once everything is optimised.

So while solar may not fully replace your grid supply, it can transform your energy usage, reduce your bills, and give you far more control over your electricity than ever before.

What will be our return on investment?

This is where things get really exciting, because solar isn’t just about being greener, it’s about real financial return too!

Your return on investment (ROI) will depend on a few key factors such as the size of your system, your energy usage, whether you include a battery, and how much electricity you currently pay for. But in many cases, homeowners see payback periods typically ranging from around 5 to 8 years.

After that point, your system is still producing free electricity for years to come, panels often last 30 years or more, meaning everything after payback is essentially long-term savings straight back into your pocket.

What really boosts ROI is using more of your own solar energy instead of importing from the grid. That’s why good system design (and optionally adding a battery) can make a huge difference to your overall savings.

We always provide a clear, tailored estimate based on your actual usage and roof setup, so you can see realistic savings and understand exactly what your investment looks like over time, no guesswork, just honest figures and transparent advice.

How long will my system last?

A well-installed solar PV system is built to last for decades. The solar panels themselves typically come with performance warranties of around 25 to 30 years, and in reality, many continue producing electricity well beyond that, just at a slightly reduced output over time.

The inverter (the device that converts solar power into usable electricity for your home) usually has a shorter lifespan, typically around 10–15 years, and may need replacing once during the lifetime of the system. Batteries, if installed, generally last around 10–15 years depending on usage.

The great news is that solar systems have no moving parts, which means very little wear and tear. With a quality installation and occasional servicing, your system will keep working reliably year after year.

In short, you’re looking at a long-term investment that can power your home for 25+ years, delivering clean energy and savings for decades to come.

Inverter – 10 Year warranty (can be extended)

Battery – 10 Year warranty

Panels – 30 Year warranty
